BCJT1LL Weekend in Review - Week 1

by Owen Munro

Another season Junior B Tier 1 lacrosse kicked off with a bang this weekend with five games on the docket. The Island teams dominated the weekend, winning four of them.

Victoria and Nanaimo got off to ideal starts with a pair of wins each. The Shamrocks, who are defending last year's Junior B1 Provincial championship, jumped all over the Burnaby Lakers, scoring early and often en route to a 14-1 win. The D was just as good, if not better, with the only goal allowed coming a little under five minutes into the second period when Jackson Eggert beat Adam Bland.

The 'Rocks faced a tougher test with a Sunday matinee against the Maple Ridge Burrards. That game was a tightly-contested affair with goals coming at a premium. A pair of Jonathan Boyd power-play markers in the first period proved to be the difference maker with the two teams going 3-3 the rest of the way - Victoria were ultimately victorious with a 5-3 win to go 2-0 on the season.

The T-Men were equally as impressive with a pair of wins over Mainland competition in New West and Langley. Nanaimo hosted the 'Bellies in an OT thriller that was a see-saw battle. After falling behind 3-0, the T-Men scored five unanswered and the two clubs went into the third tied 5-5. With the final frame proving to be fruitless, we went to OT where Parker Davie sealed the deal a few minutes in.

Nanaimo took that momentum into Langley on Sunday and used an eight-goal second period to run away from the Thunder. Kyle Drouin (4 assists) and Wade Mason (3 goals) led all scorers while Justin Reedeker and Riley Arsenault adding a pair each.
