3 STARS: Pongracz stellar in Poco upset of A's

by Owen Munro

1ST STAR - TYLER PONGRACZ - PORT COQUITLAM SAINTS

1 GAME - 1 WIN, 6 GOALS ALLOWED ON 53 SHOTS, .887 SV%

What a win for the Poco Saints, who upended the Coquitlam Adanacs 7-6 on Friday night. A huge part of that was the big man in goal, Tyler Pongracz. He's settled in well with his new club after an offseason trade from Burnaby. The former No. 3 overall BCJALL draft pick was stellar, making 47 saves on 53 shots, gaining more confidence with each shot he turned away. He was especially impactful in the third period, where he never allowed the A's to tie the game despite Poco getting outshot 14-11.  He also leads the league in SV% with a .873 mark.

The Saints now move to 6-1 and have allowed the second-least amount of goals among all teams this season.

2ND STAR - KENYON NYMAN, MAPLE RIDGE BURRARDS

1 GAME - 6 GOALS, 2 ASSISTS

Poco's No. 5 overall pick decided to stick around in Maple Ridge and play for his hometown Burrards in his first season of junior lacrosse, and that decision is looking like a strong one. Nyman has arguably been Maple Ridge's best offensive player this season, with 22 points in 7 games this season. He's also been lethal on the Power Play, scoring 5 of his 13 markers with the man advantage.

Maple Ridge has a young core but are staying competitive despite that. Despite only having a 2-5 record, they have had strong showings in several games, losing three times by 3 goals or less.

3RD STAR - EZRAH GLANVILLE, NEW WESTMINSTER SALMONBELLIES

2 GAMES - 4 GOALS, 1 ASSIST

A pretty incredible feat by the young 'Bellie, who scored all four of his goals in a win over the Burnaby Lakers with a man down. That's pretty unheard of in box lacrosse, no matter what the team, player or level of competition.
