3 STARS: Big Week for Thunder's Gettel

by Owen Munro

1ST STAR - COOPER GETTEL, LANGLEY THUNDER

2 GAMES - 8 GOALS, 2 ASSISTS, 10 POINTS

Cooper Gettel has continued his development as a solid two-way runner for the Langley Thunder with another solid season. He helps push the pace in transition and is dependable on special teams, leading the Thunder with five short-handed goals in 2019.

He tallied three of his five goals with the man down in Langley's latest loss to Port Coquitlam, all of them coming in the first period. You would think Gettel will be relied upon even more down the stretch with the Thunder looking to make a playoff push.

2ND STAR - KEEGAN KOZACK, DELTA ISLANDERS

2 GAMES - 5 GOALS, 3 ASSISTS, 8 POINTS

Another star offensive player for the Delta Islanders, showing the league just how far the Islanders depth lies. Kozack is coming off a strong seven-point night in a big win over the ever-improving New West Salmonbellies. It's that type of offensive production that will be critical when or if teams start putting their best defenders on the likes of Ben McDonald more frequently, and you know that will happen the closer we get to playoffs.

Kozack is another player to watch for in the future with Delta's Jr. A club.

3RD STAR - COLTON CARON, NEW WESTMINSTER

2 GAMES - 71 SAVES ON 89 SHOTS, .797 SV%

Despite losing two of his last three games, Colton Caron is turning into a solid, dependable option for the fish. He's finished with a .750 SV% or greater in his last four starts, including a 41-save effort in a massive 9-8 overtime win in Maple Ridge against a stingy Burrards team. If New West wants to start making a move up the standings - which is entirely possible as they sit five points out of a tie for fifth place - then they will need the same consistency as they've been getting out of Caron between the pipes, as well as Matt Liu, who has also been impressive in the 200 or so minutes he's gotten so far this season.
